Melissa Wenzel, ND
Naturopathic Physician

Dr. Melissa Wenzel is a recent graduate of the National College of Natural Medicine and is a licensed, board-certified primary care physician. She enjoys working with a wide variety of patients and her treatment strategies typically include Naturopathic principles and modalities including homeopathy, botanical medicine, hydrotherapy, massage, lifestyle counseling and a whole foods approach to nutritional health. Her particular interests include women's health, pediatrics, hormone balance, digestive health, emotional health and family medicine. Dr. Wenzel believes strongly in the principles of Naturopathic Medicine and as such, generally limits/avoids the use of pharmaceutical interventions.

Before finding her path to Naturopathic Medicine, Dr. Wenzel pursued a career in fine arts as a painter. She is a 2001 graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, where she earned her B.A. in Fine Arts. It was through her love of painting the natural world and the desire to work with botanical medicine that she discovered her passion for the healing arts.

Dr. Wenzel has extensive training in herbal medicine and completed the 9 month Advanced Training Course with Matthew Wood's School of Traditional Western Herbalism. She is very passionate about homeopathy and earned a Certificate in Homeopathy during her education at NCNM. She has completed additional training outside of NCNM, including seminars with Jeremy Sherr, Kim Elia and Dr. Will Taylor, MD. She also completed a year-long preceptorship in Pediatric Wellness with Naturopathic Midwife and Physician, Dr. Jennifer Gibbons.

At Elixia Wellness, she will be completing a year-long mentorship with Dr. Deborah Frances, RN, ND where she will work closely with Dr. Frances to enhance her treatment strategies and to gain insight on her expertise in botanical formulations and homeopathic prescriptions.

Outside of her Naturopathic practice, Dr. Wenzel enjoys spending time in the outdoors with her husband and fraternal twin daughters. She is passionate about gluten-free cooking, farmer's markets, gardening, hiking, yoga and painting. When asked what she likes best about her job, she says "one of the greatest honors I feel about being a doctor is when I can learn from my patients by what they are experiencing and or have experienced, when it deepens my connection to them and to the healing arts and allows me to become a better physician. It's quite a rewarding experience." Dr. Wenzel offers free 15-minute phone or in-office consultations and would love to hear from you!
